Lawn Fawn: Happy Birthday Lemon Cupcake Card

Happy Birthday Lemon Cupcake Card by Maria Byrd |

I'm so glad to finally able to share with you my Happy Birthday Lemon Cupcake Card which took me a week to come up with the design!  Sometimes, the creative process is like those cooking challenge shows where you initially have no clue what the ingredients are.  So you end up creating (the dish) as you go.

This was my first try in using a multi-media gel and I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I opened the new jar of Prima Art Basics Soft Matte Gel.  After a few minutes, I decided to use it like gesso by mixing a bit of color with it.  I used Post-it Adhesive Roll to temporarily hold DecoArt Americana Decor Doily Stencil on 80 lb. Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock and a palette knife to spread a thin layer of gel over it.

After it was dry, I then stenciled Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Dot Layering Stencil with Ranger Distress Inks in Tea Dye and blended the same color along with Antique Linen, Spiced Marmalade, and Barn Door all over the paper.  Part of me wanted to stop at this point as shown on the picture above, but I ended up spritzing some water over it.  As a result, it softened and blended the colors more.  To bring back some vibrancy, I lightly daubed Spiced Marmalade over the entire thing.

I then die-cut the orange piece with Lawn Cuts Fancy Scalloped Rectangle Stackables.  The inside of the larger piece was trimmed with Lawn Cuts Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables.  I was going to use a cardstock for the background, but found out that I didn't have the right shade of blue.  So, I colored another piece of 80 lb. Neenah cardstock with Ranger Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass and Broken China using a dauber and sprayed some water over it to add texture.  I rotated the larger orange piece and glued it to the background with the smaller piece inside.

'Happy' sentiment was die-cut twice from Canson Watercolor Paper using Lawn Cuts Scripty Happy.  The first one was colored in the two shades of blue and glued slightly off-set on top of the uncolored piece.  The Birthday and cupcake stamps were from Simon Says Stamp Stamptember 2016 Sweet Cakes.  Birthday sentiment was stamped in Broken China on a small remnant of watercolor pad that was daubed in Tumbled Glass.  I then fussy cut it and glued below the Happy sentiment.

The cupcake was stamped in Tea Dye and colored with Zig Clean Color Real Brush  in yellow and cobalt blue.  To add lots of sparkle, I brushed the center piece with Zig Wink of Stella Glitter Clear and carefully covered the Happy sentiment and cupcake frosting with Ranger Glossy Accents.  When everything was dry, I sealed it with Distress Glaze by lightly rubbing the wax-like paste all over the card.  I then used Glue Glider to adhere the card piece to a Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb Cardstock cut to an A2 (4.25 x 5.5 inches when folded) size.

I would like to enter this card to the following challenges:
