Simon Says Stamp: Birthday Cupcake Card

Simon Says Stamp Birthday Cupcake Card by Maria Byrd |

I love cupcakes and it's one of many things I miss from the big city!  Well, the 24/7 Sprinkles Cupcake ATM more specifically that is.  Needless to say, yummy cupcakes have been in my thoughts lately.  Ha!  Ha!  Ha!  And I found my Simon Says Stamp - Stamptember 2016 Sweet Cakes stamp and die set to fit the mood. 😉

This birthday card was quite simple to make.  I first die-cut an 80 lb. Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock using A2 size Lawn Fawn's Lawn Cuts Dies Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables.  Then I used a mini blending tool to lightly color the edges with Ranger Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers.  The sentiment and candles were repeatedly stamped along the bottom using the same ink color.

The cupcakes were stamped on scraps of 140 lb. cold press Canson Watercolor Paper with Memento in Desert Sand.  They were heat dried to set the ink and prevent smudging.  Ranger Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, and Wilted Violet were used as a watercolor for the cupcakes.  To add shine and dimension, the tops were carefully covered in Ranger Glossy Accents.

I tried different brown colors for the cake stand but finally settled with Desert Sand.  I liked the speckled texture on it.  It was die-cut and then glued on top of the sentiment.  The die-cut cupcakes were arranged on top of the stand with the two front ones raised using 0.50 inch double-sided foam mounting tape.  For a subtle sparkle, the sentiments and bottom part of cupcakes were outlined with Zig Wink of Stella Glitter in Clear.

When everything was dry, Distress Glaze was lightly rubbed all over the card as a sealer (not waterproof).  To create a card base, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb Cardstock was cut to 8.50 x 5.50 inches and folded to an A2 (4.25 x 5.50 inches) card size.  Lastly, the decorated front piece was then attached to it with Glue Glider.

  6. Truly very pretty Birthday Cupcake Card. That’s a creative idea. I too have been working on DIY birthday banners, labels and much more for my son’s upcoming birthday that I would be hosting soon at the local LA venue. I too would be making a pop up card for him. Just so excited about the entire event.
